We all know that there are many people all over the world who are addicted in smoking cigarettes. However, you should know that smoking can cause various diseases.

Smoking can cause lung disease, as it can damage the airways and the small air sacs in our lungs. But, you should also be reminded that smoking doesn’t only harm the lungs, as it can cause cancer in any part of our body.

Furthermore, the nationwide ban on smoking or the Executive Order 26 takes effect today, July 23. While many netizens disagree with this order, there are still people who are in-favor in smoking ban.

In this Executive Order, smoking is prohibited in private and public transportations, schools, and food establishments. However, streets and waiting sheds are also covered by the smoking ban.

Individuals caught violating this order will face fines ranging P500 to P10, 000 depending on the offense. Moreover, owners of establishment caught violating the ban may be imprisoned for not more than 30 days or may be fined P5, 000.

Also, under the smoking ban, all local governments are required to create a task force that will supervise the ban’s implementation.

Presidential Spokesman, Ernesto Abella said that "This Executive Order is another milestone where the government gives priority to the right to protect public health. The implementation of this EO is a realization of our dream of a tobacco-free future,"
